Yes, and it’s one of the best ways to make an extension or garden room feel bigger. The trick is choosing a coordinated collection, rather than trying to use one tile everywhere.
How coordinated collections work
Manufacturers make the same colour and look in an indoor tile (usually 9–10mm) and an outdoor paving (usually 20mm). Side by side, they read as one floor, even though the outdoor version has a grippier finish.
Will they match exactly?
Very closely, but not identically. Outdoor finishes are textured for grip, which changes how the surface catches the light. Order samples of both and look at them together, ideally in the space they’ll be used.
The threshold
The finished floor heights either side of your doors are set by the build-up underneath. Talk to your builder and door supplier early so the inside floor and outside paving meet as closely as possible.
Ordering
Order indoor and outdoor tiles together where you can, so both come from the same production batch.
