Porcelain paving, outdoor tiles, patio tiles: they all describe the same thing. 20mm porcelain is dense, frost-resistant and stain-resistant, so it keeps its colour and needs very little care beyond an occasional clean.
Most outdoor collections come with a textured, slip-resistant finish, and many have a matching indoor tile so your patio can continue the floor inside. Steps, copings and edging pieces are available on selected collections and listed in your quotation.
Laying 20mm porcelain
20mm paving is usually laid on a full mortar bed with a bonding primer, or on adjustable pedestals for roof terraces and raised decks. Your installer will choose the right method for your base.
Common questions
What’s the difference between 9mm and 20mm porcelain?
9–10mm porcelain is the standard thickness for floors inside. 20mm porcelain is made for outside: it’s stronger, can be laid on a bed or on pedestals, and usually has a textured, slip-resistant finish.
Are they slippery when wet?
Outdoor porcelain comes with textured, slip-resistant finishes. Ratings such as R11 are a useful guide, and we check the manufacturer’s wet slip data for pool surrounds, steps and slopes before quoting.
Do you have matching steps, copings and edging?
Many collections offer steps, copings and pool edge pieces. We’ll confirm what’s available for your chosen collection in your quotation.
